are each of these ingredients crucial? what does each do??Quick question about banana bread recipe.?
you are talking my language now...

flour, baking soda, and baking powder? consistency, and rising ability

sugar? sweetness. depending on how sweet you like your desserts you can add or subtract in this area.

egg? makes everything stick together

margarine? moistness

milk? ever had a dry piece of cake? same concept

salt? basic flavoring. please be gentle with this as it will turn out total gross if you add to much and you WILL have to throw the whole loaf away. trust me.

banana? it's banana bread. (consequently, you can add as many bananas as you like. bananas have a natural sweetness and are full of pottassium, so you can ';have your bread and eat it too';)

walnuts? adds a little extra nutty flavor and accentuates the banana flavor.

if you like you can either add a little bit of vanilla or banana extract? just a little though you don't want it to be too strong. about half a teapspoon will do.Quick question about banana bread recipe.?
Every ingredient in a recipe is crucial. The combination of each ingredient is what makes the recipe work. After making something several times, you can start to experiment and seeing what happens, but trying new things takes practise.
i would increase the margarine .it's not good for you but it makes the bread taste better ;more moist and alittle gooey .

i've stumbled upon this accidentally with date nust bread and adopted it for my once a year endulgence .
in baking every ingredient is important. the only one you an leave out is the nuts. the flour and baking soda and baking powder give it its bread likeness and rising factor. you do need all of it.
Well obviously you dont need the walnuts, but if I were you i would really just stick to the recipe if you want it to turn out.
