I need a recipe for a cake like corn bread. My Grandmother called hers ';Johnny Cake?

1/4 cup butter, softened


1 cup sugar


1 egg


1 cup water


1 1/2 cup all purpose flour


1/2 teaspoon salt


1/2 cup yellow corn meal


1 heaping teaspoon baking powder





Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 11x7x1-1/2 inch pan. Cream together butter and sugar. Beat in the egg and water. Sift into the above mixture the flour and salt. Add corn meal and baking powder and mix well. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 40-45 minutes.I need a recipe for a cake like corn bread. My Grandmother called hers ';Johnny Cake?
OLD FASHIONED JOHNNY CAKES





1 egg


2 c. white or yellow cornmeal


1 tsp. salt


1 1/4 to 1 1/2 c. milk





Beat 1 egg. Stir in 2 cups white or yellow corn meal, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups milk (to make batter thick). Drop spoonfuls of batter onto a well-greased hot griddle and fry to a golden brown on each side. Stir batter occasionally to keep well mixed. Serve hot with butter.

1 egg, beaten


1 c. buttermilk


4 tsp. baking powder


1/2 tsp. soda


1/2 tsp. salt


1 c. flour


1/2 c. cornmeal

3/4 c all-purpose flour


1 teaspoon baking soda


2 tablespoons sugar


1/2 teaspoon salt


1 1/4 cups cornmeal


2 eggs, beaten


1/4 cup vinegar


1/4 cup melted shortening





Sift together flour, baking soda, sugar and salt; stir in cornmeal. Whisk together eggs, vinegar, and shortening; add to dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened.


Heat a well-greased 9-inch cast iron skillet in a 400掳 oven for 3 to 4 minutes or until very hot.








Spoon batter into hot skillet. Bake at 400掳 for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.
