I did some MAJOR substituting in the ingredient department. Instead of using white corn meal I used yellow...instead of using real buttermilk I used ';mock'; buttermilk, meaning that I mixed the appropriate amounts of milk and lemon juice to create fake buttermilk. Its still in the oven and I cant wait to know if this is going to be a total flop!Anyone familiar with an old time recipe called ';Batter Bread';?
Yep! Batter Bread is great. The substituting you did isn't major at all. White cornmeal to yellow meal won't make a bit of difference and I always make my own ';buttermilk'; when called for in a recipe. It might alter the taste slightly, but only if you've made it with real buttermilk your whole life and know the difference. You should pull out a perfect loaf when the timer sounds. Enjoy!
